Child Welfare SA Gauteng Information

For the organisations to render effective services through investigation and presentation of professional reports in Children’s Courts in line with the requirements of the relevant statutes that is; the Children’s Act, Act No. 38 of 2005 as amended, and in line with the requirements of the Service Level Agreement with the Department of Social Development.  Over and above these services, the organisations also engage in the following activities:

Counselling to caregivers and children.

Placing children in places of safety and monitoring them.

Placing children in foster care and monitoring them.

Providing various skills development programmes such as:

Basic reading and writing skills workshops for children.

Establishing and maintaining food gardens for foster parents.

Community development programmes.

Supplying food parcels to the needy.

Supplying clothing and furniture to the needy.

Supplying children with Back-to-School packs.

Engaging in various fundraising activities.

Hosting school and community-based awareness projects such as Child Protection Week, Youth Day Programmes, Anti-Rape and Anti-Drug Campaigns. 

            Raising awareness on Child Trafficking

    It is therefore imperative for the Child Welfare South Africa Gauteng Provincial Office to add value to the member organisations in providing on-site in-service training and development.  

Under causes, these are the different components of services we offer

1. COMPONENT: PROGRAMS

Programs are the methods that are used to respond to social ills of the communities. It uses projects that addresses the pressing issues of the people. Programs are made to empower people in different ways. Types of programs are used to give skills, educate, generates income in order to realise people from poverty. It is also addressing methods that could be used to respond to the challenges of the communities. They are directed at reducing poverty, improving opportunities, it enables people to take informed decisions. When people are involved in programs they are to be rehabilitated and change their lives.

PROGRAM WITHIN THE CHILD PROTECTION SECTOR

The end goal of implementing the programs is to protect the children from any form of exploitation. For example, if the program generates income, children will never go to bed hungry, thus their basic needs are met. Programs give children skills and they are taught oh how to respond in difficult times together with behavioural skills.

2.  STATUTORY SUPPORT COMPONENT

The statutory component aims to provide affiliates with the guidance and support services and training specifically focused on statutory intervention.  Our training focus is on safety and development of children through foster care supervision, adoption services, reunification and preventative services.

We also focus on referrals, report writing, children’s act, mediation, parenting plans, maintenance plans, family law, divorce law and children’s law. We further conduct regular consultation and visits to affiliates to evaluate quality of statutory services rendered to the individuals, families and community at large.

3.  PSYCHO SOCIAL COMPONENT

The key aspect of this component is to provide training to affiliates that focus on the therapeutic and communication aspect of social service delivery.  This component research and documents various interventions that can be used to enhance the psycho social well-being of clients.

4.  GOVERNANCE COMPONENT

The purpose of this component is to ensure good governance and standardized services across affiliates.  To provide capacity building and strengthen affiliates to ensure effective service delivery.
